The Dark Secrets of Oak Island: Curses, Deaths, and Eerie Mysteries
I just viewed what I can now call my favorite series: "Lost." It's a show that keeps one at the edge of the seat with its mysteries and dark twists. Inspired by this island-centric suspense, I thought, why not explore an actual island filled with real-life eerie mysteries and macabre tales? It was here that I stumbled upon Oak Island, an island surrounded by some of the most gripping stories pertaining to ancient curses and inexplicable deaths. This small, Nova Scotia-based island in Canada gained not just fame because of its purported buried treasure but also for events unfolding there which send chills down the spines of treasure seekers and enthusiasts alike.
The Curses of Seven Deaths
Probably the best-known part of its lore is that of the Oak Island curse. The island is said to be accursed, with one of those chilling stipulations tacked on: it has been said that seven people must die before it can find the treasure. To date, six individuals have lost their lives in attempting to find the treasure that this place presumably holds. These eerie coincidences only added fuel to the thought that something from beyond this earth is guarding it.
It is such a legend, the proponents of which very often refer to a number of strange and tragic accidents occurring within numerous treasure-hunting expeditions.
The psychology of being the seventh victim is an immense weight added to anyone who dares to dig. More so, a number of the deaths have been unexplained or sudden, from drowning incidents to fatal mechanical failures during the excavation processes. The uncertainty and aura of danger that surrounds Oak Island keep both skeptics and believers intrigued; it is one of the most enigmatic places in the world.
